Sunday the 24 April, the club did very well at the Shaw Baton Relay with over 45 members present, the senior women winning, and a mention in dispatches for Greg Faine and Hamish Carson on account of their very sharp individual times.  A full race report is on the Scottish Harriers website - www.scottishathletics.org.nz and that also has a link to the full detailed results on the Olympic Harriers website. www.olympicharriers.org.nz

5th June: The massive news of the week was the great run by Paul Forster in the SBS Christchurch half marathon.  There were a number of club members running including your illustrious club secretaries Kevin and Penny, the indefatigable Gail Daniel and the unstoppable Maurice Piper (in the marathon), but the red ribbon has to go to Paul who at 46, yes 46, finished in 1:12:36 making him 1st in the 40-49 age group, and in fact the fastest vet on the day and 17th finisher overall.  That’s what is known in the sport as a pretty good days effort.  Truly fantastic.

11 June:     The big event this week was the running of the Dorne Cup at Trentham Memorial Park.
The weather was cool, with a light breeze. Ground conditions were soft.
Some excellent results were recorded by Kapiti runners, against some of Wellington's best athletes.
This is how we went:

Masters Men 35 + 3rd Paul Forster 27:39
    8th Greg Fraine 28:41
    15th Peter Rickard 29:40
    22nd Alan McCauley 30:28
    24th Paul Binkhorst 30:43

The Shoe Clinic Half Marathon, full marathon and 10 k races were run on Sunday 26 June in awful conditions. Southerly winds, rain and biting cold made watching the race, or being a marshall, a test of resolve.
Running attire ranged from the usual shorts and singlet, to long pants, jersey, parka, beanie, gloves and a scarf pulled up so only the eyes were left to suffer from the weather.
Club members with the strength and determination to run in all this rubbish were:

In the Half Marathon:
Paul Binkhorst  1:26:48  8th in in men's  40-44
Lisa Bean         1:30:07  4th in women's open grade, 8th woman overall
Claire Gold        1:31:22  2nd in women's 40-44, 14th female overall

Suzi Richards 1:20:40 1st in women's open, 1st woman overall, 21st finisher. Wow !

. . .and in the Marathon,

Maurice Piper     3:34:52   2nd in men 55-59 and 51st male overall
